Spreadsheets lesson 2 & 3.

The next step in spreadsheet exercises is to start Lesson 2. (Houses)

Follow these steps:

Task 1

Read through the Project 2 pdf presentation.

Task 2

  • Read through the Lesson2 task, and at the same time, complete the Lesson2.xls. You will need to save the spreadsheet to your ICT folder. Name this Lesson2.
  • N.B. No. 11 on the task sheet says that you should, ” … enter the numbers for each house that you got from your class questionnaire.” As we haven’t done a questionnaire, simply make up any numbers you wish to use for this exercise. Perhaps between 10 and 20?

Once students have completed the activities from Lesson 2, we’ll revise what has been learnt thus far. The following will be included:

1. Resize columns                 

2. Format cells as currency                      

3. Autofill a formula

4. Use of the SUM function

5. Renaming a Worksheet tab

6. Delete an unused Worksheet

7. Insert a row

8. Merge cells

9. Set a print area and show gridlines and headers in printout

Afterwards, students should continue with Lesson 3 (School Tests) from the Harry Plotter Project. Remember to use the Excel video tutorials if you need further explanation.

Task 1.  

Read Lesson 3 Task (pdf file)

Task 2.

Complete the Lesson 3. xls (Spreadsheet) You will need to scroll down the page until you reach Lesson 3 from the Teach – ICT website and look for Lesson 3.xls.  Click on the orange button which says “Click Here” and choose the option to save the file to your user area. Open the file from your “My Documents” area and complete the spreadsheet.
